Elias Dickey
THRU

Elias Dickey is an Oakland-based fiction writer, artist/cartoonist, guitarist/songwriter, miniature hobbyist, and all-around nuisance. Most known for his awe inspiring humility, somewhat overzealous use of descriptive words, and his immersive world building, he has published various works, including a Procrasti Nation comic in the EBI Thunderbird, an Afrofuturism-oriented website, articles on Eddie Van Halen, Elon Musk, and a review of 2021’s Finch in the OSA Telegraph. Currently in the works are his science fiction/apocalyptic novel, The End, and his sci fi/horror collaboration with a fellow writer, Off Course, a tale of corporate greed and interstellar travel where an encounter with intelligent alien life goes wildly south after a dangerous mining operation. Much of his inspiration comes from Star Wars legends and expanded universe authors like Joe Schreiber and Chuck Wendig, but his use of literary devices more closely resembles the style of Rick Riordan, his childhood inspiration and the author that got him into reading. Other inspirations include James Dashner, Ernest Cline, and Franklin W. Dixon. And every sitcom ever.

Elias went to a Spanish immersion (Escuela Bilingüe Internacional) through eighth grade, and has also written several poems and short stories in Spanish. He now attends Oakland School for the Arts in the Literary Arts department, where he’s learned poetry, screenwriting, zine-making, journalism, and more than he could possibly need about astrology.

Kian Martinez, sarcastic art kid and all-around nerd alert, ditches a mind-numbing school field trip in favor of exploring a rust-ridden tower, ending up in an ever-increasing sequence of events that just don't make sense. From the hostile half-people of the uncanny valley to some sort of skyscraper-boat to what he thinks just might be a wormhole through space and time, Kian has to work through the dangerously confusing and confusingly dangerous obstacles with his only worldly possessions tucked in the pockets of his cargo shorts.
